The Secret Behind Twitter And Business Success

The success a business sees with its Twitter account correlates to how it attracts people to follow and engage with tweets that your company produces. It’s no secret — the more people engage you on Twitter translates into more prospects for your business. However, the first step, is to empower them to join your following.

Be Concrete

  • Research tells us by simply asking people to follow us on Twitter that increases the likelihood they will do exactly what we want. But you have to make it easy. This may sound obvious, but there’s a catch. How you ask people to follow you is as important as the actual “ask.”
  • You should be concrete. That means you should use a imperative statement, such as “Follow me on Twitter.” An imperative sentence gives advice or instruction that expresses a request or command.

According to Jennifer Aaers, a Stanford University marketing professor, one blogger “increased click-through rates by more than 50 percent.” Over time, the blogger increased the intensity of his “ask” incrementally and improved his overall click-through rate to his Twitter account by 173 percent.

Add Value

Once your Twitter following begins to climb, you can fuel the momentum by providing content of value. That term, “value,” can be ambiguous, but here is what studies have  shown us about value and sharing content.

  • Content that solves a problem  is more likely shared than content that does not.
  • Funny content that makes us feel good is more often shared than content that is flat or boring.
  • Bite-sized chunks of content that are easy to understand are shared more often than not.

Business success using Twitter isn’t difficult, and increasing your following can be as easy as asking people. Just remember it’s how you ask that matters. Once they follow you, increasing your value to them and their friends is as easy as solving problems, making them laugh, and delivering that information in an easily digestible format.
